Structured Cabling

Structured cabling is building or campus telecommunications cabling infrastructure comprising standardized smaller elements called subsystems. Essentially it is the cabling that makes all of your systems work – your computer network, telephone system, VoIP system, alarm system, fire system and so on.

Copper Cabling

Whether you are installing a digital telephone, alarm system, desktop computer, VoIP telephone or a server for your data network, you need to know which cable needs to be installed. There are four primary things to help you decide which cable to use:

  • What is being connected to the cable?
  • How fast does the data need to travel over the cable?
  • What type of environment is the cable being installed in?
  • How long do you plan on keeping this cable installed?

Fiber Optic Cabling

When looking at fiber optic cables, many of the same rules as copper apply. However while fiber is also used to transmit information, fiber can actually handle a much larger amount of information in a smaller space and over a greater distance.

While both Copper and Fiber Optic cable are used for most of the networked type installations, it is always recommended that you consult with a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) before starting any structured cabling installation to insure the best cable for the type of job is installed.
